Each candidate will have 2 minutes to respond to each question. Following those initial answers, the moderator will invite the candidates to respond to the previous answers, for a total of 1 minute, ensuring that both candidates receive an equal amount of time to comment. 美国总统候选人辩论通过电视和广播向全国直播。1960年首次总统候选人电视辩论吸引了6600万观众和听众，1980年总统候选人辩论的观众和听众人数达到8000万。
